About the museum
The Galéria Jozefa Kollára is part of the Slovenské banské múzeum (Slovak Mining Museum). It is a collecting gallery that gathers, processes and presents works of visual art from the 13th century to the present. Its collections and exhibitions include rare works with mining themes, which document the historical, cultural and socio-economic significance of the Banská Štiavnica region.
The gallery is housed in three historic buildings directly on Holy Trinity Square (Námestie sv. Trojice) in the town centre. Under one roof it presents works by National Artist Jozef Kollár, Merited Artist Edmund Gwerk and the painter Jaroslav Augusta. A visit to the gallery is also an encounter with the architecture of historic burgher houses.
