About the museum
The Museum of Mošovce Crafts was established in 1983 on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the founding of the village of Mošovce. It is housed in the neo-Gothic mausoleum of the Révay family on the edge of the Mošovce park. The raised part of the building originally held an altar, which is now in Blatnica, and the lower room contained the Révay family tomb.
The exhibition presents the crafts that developed in the village from the 16th to the 19th century. Around fifteen guilds operated in Mošovce, among them butchers, smiths, wheelwrights, joiners, hatters, coopers, furriers and belt-makers. The oldest craft was shoemaking, documented from 1548, and the best known was furriery.
The collection consists of working tools and finished products, for example tools for processing threads and hides, aids for shoemakers and bootmakers, hat moulds, carpenters' planes and household objects. A special feature is the log-lifting jack and the company sign of the well-known Mošovce smith Michal Borcovan. The museum is open by arrangement for groups announced in advance or by agreement with the guide.
