About the museum
The museum stands on the original site of the birth house of the poet, Evangelical pastor and herald of Pan-Slavic mutual solidarity, Ján Kollár. Only the granary (sýpka) of the house has survived; in 1974 a memorial room was installed in it, which was reinstalled in 1983. In 2009–2010 a new building was added to the preserved part, with a new part of the exhibition, which was opened on 8 August 2010.
The entrance to the exhibition leads through the original granary. Panels depict Kollár's life from his birth, through his studies, to his work in Lobeda, Pest and Vienna, his death, and the transfer of his remains to Prague in 1904. Various editions of his works are on display, for example Slávy dcéra (Daughter of Sláva) from 1824 and 1832, and a plaque from the Czech-Slavic Exhibition (Českoslovanská výstava) in Prague of 1895.
The museum is managed by the Municipal Office in Mošovce.
