Manor house of the Madách family in Dolná Strehová, with a memorial exhibition on the life and work of Imre Madách and his The Tragedy of Man.

Opening hoursAdmission €5

About the museum

The manor house in Dolná Strehová was the seat of the noble Madách family and the setting in which Imre Madách wrote his drama Tragédia človeka (The Tragedy of Man), a work of world literary significance. Today it is managed by the Slovenské národné múzeum – Múzeum kultúry Maďarov na Slovensku (Museum of Hungarian Culture in Slovakia).

The new memorial exhibition, formally handed over on 26 March 2014 after the restoration of the manor house, has two parts. The first presents life in the manor house in the 19th century. The second part, entitled Tragédia človeka, highlights the most important ideas of all fifteen scenes of Madách's work; a coloured strip on the floor marks the direction of the tour. The reconstruction of the museum was supported by the Hungary–Slovakia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007–2013.
