About the museum

The Lučenecká Radnica (Lučenec Town Hall) is a neo-Renaissance building, which Karol Kovács built to the winning design of the Budapest firm Nagy and Kolbenheyer. The foundation stone was laid on 12 July 1893 and the solemn opening took place in September 1894. The building served as the town house until 2000; after a comprehensive reconstruction in 2015, financed partly from European sources, the decision was taken to establish a municipal museum.

The town of Lučenec founded its own museum in 2016 and officially registered it with the Ministry of Culture of the SR. The museum in the Radnica was opened to the public on 29 September 2017. It is devoted to acquiring, protecting and making accessible the history of the town as tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The permanent exhibitions are on the upper floor, and on the ground floor there are three versions of a school classroom.

The exhibition is arranged by periods. It covers the 200-year tradition of bell-making in Lučenec, a Biedermeier bourgeois interior, the two Lučenec enamel works, a fragment of the Renaissance Lučenec treasure discovered in 1851 (copies are shown), the work of the painter František Gyurkovits, the Poľana Opatová textile factory, the Mier furniture factory, and housing in the 1950s to 1970s. It also includes a model of the town of Lučenec in 1907.
