About the museum

The idea of a local history museum in the Trebišov district arose as early as 1949, and in 1963 it was founded by the Rada ONV (District National Committee) in Trebišov. Initially it was housed in the Osvetový dom (Education House) and, for lack of space, did not even have a collections fund. The change came in 1980, when the decision was taken to build a specialised exhibition on the history of agriculture; in 1982 the museum moved into the building of the former count's stables.

The former Andrássy manor house, in which a hospital had been housed until 1978, was also acquired for the museum's needs; its reconstruction began in 1982. In the grounds, conserved steam ploughing sets and historic tractors gradually appeared outdoors. Since 2002 the museum has organised projects focused on Tokaj wine and Easter traditions, which, together with the Tokaj Wine Route, increase visitor numbers.

In 2021 the museum underwent re-profiling, with the aim of devoting more attention to the Andrássy family, the last owners of the manor house. Today it offers four tour options: The Andrássy Family and the Trebišov Manor House; Archaeology of Southern Zemplín with the Treasury of the Dobó Family (Klenotnica rodiny Štefana Dobóa); both of these circuits together; and the Life on the Estate circuit, with exhibitions in the adjoining farm buildings. The museum is a cultural institution of the Košice Self-Governing Region.
