Múzeum sestier Royových

About the museum

The Múzeum sestier Royových introduces the family background of the Royovci, the life and work of two sisters, Mária (1858–1924) and Kristína (1860–1936) Royová, and the Blue Cross movement. Mária Royová is known as one of the first women composers of Christian spiritual songs in Slovakia, and her sister Kristína as a Slovak writer. Together they inspired the emergence of the evangelical movement, which influenced several Christian churches in Slovakia, and they also devoted themselves to social work.

In 2013 enthusiasts from the civic association Sluha (Servant) created a new exhibition in the Domov bielych hláv (White Heads Home) in Stará Turá and symbolically returned this space to its founder, Kristína Royová. The authors of the exhibition Život a dielo sestier Royových (The Life and Work of the Royová Sisters) are Pavol Trúsik and the graphic artist Svetlana Číčelová. The building needed serious reconstruction, and the museum is now operated by the Evanjelická cirkev augsburského vyznania na Slovensku (Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia).
