About the museum

The Transport Museum in Bratislava is a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice. It was opened to the public in 1999 as a specialised museum documenting the history of transport on the territory of Slovakia.

In two exhibition halls and on the adjoining outdoor areas it presents the development of road and rail transport. The exhibits include around 50 historic cars, 30 motorcycles and many non-motorised vehicles, models and period accessories. Exhibits were also lent by the Railways of the Slovak Republic, the Veterán Club Bratislava, the Association of Historic Vehicle Collectors of the SR and private enthusiasts.

Since 2013 the museum has also documented water transport. Its first significant object is the national cultural monument, the 1937 towing tug Šturec, which stands in the Winter Harbour and is being gradually restored. It is open to the public only once or twice a year, usually at events such as Slnovrat na Dunaji (Solstice on the Danube).
