Múzeum holokaustu v Seredi

A museum on the site of the former labour and concentration camp in Sereď, documenting the persecution of Jews in Slovakia during the Second World War.

Opening hoursAdmission €8

About the museum

The museum was established on the grounds of the former labour and concentration camp for Jews in Sereď, which operated from September 1941 to March 1945. Of the camps set up in Slovakia in 1941 (Nováky, Vyhne, Sereď), only the one in Sereď has been preserved, which is why it is an authentic place linked to the fate of the Jewish community in the country. Around 16,000 people passed through the Sereď camp.

The exhibition, through documents, photographs and objects, presents the persecution of Jews and their deportations; one of the exhibits is a cattle wagon in which deportations took place. The museum also includes an education centre with seminars and events against racism, xenophobia and antisemitism.

The museum belongs to the network of the Slovak National Museum (Museum of Jewish Culture). Since 2022 it has also managed the Slovak national exhibition The Tragedy of Slovak Jews in Block 16 of the former Auschwitz I camp in Osvienčim. Since 2017 it has offered a video guide in sign language for deaf visitors.
