About the museum
Cilina iža (Cila’s House), or Bežanova domačija (Bežan farmstead), in Gornji Slaveči is the oldest house in the village and in the Kuzma municipality. It was built around 1870 in the shape of the letter L, mostly of clay and wood (cimprača), roofed with straw and whitewashed with lime. Under one common straw roof it combines the living and farm quarters; the smoke kitchen has been preserved.
The house was inhabited for most of its life by Cecilija Bežan, known locally as Cila; after her death it was inherited by the municipality of Kuzma. With funds from the Ministry of Culture, the municipality carried out a comprehensive renovation in 2017 and 2018 using traditional methods and local materials. The aim is to establish educational content and museum tourism; the renovated cowshed is intended for the museum exhibition space.
