About the museum
The collection was begun by local resident Jožef Čuš. In 1996, when the windmill at Stara Gora was completed, the idea arose to exhibit these items; the collection of farming and craft tools thus found a new home in the former school opposite the late-Baroque Church of the Holy Spirit (Sveti Duh). The school was built in 1906, and the collection was set up in 1997. In 2009 the objects were catalogued by students of ethnology and cultural anthropology at the University of Ljubljana during a week-long ethnological camp. The collection is now supplemented by Jožef Čuš Jr. and members of the Turistično društvo Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici (Tourist Society).
The collection comprises around a thousand objects: ploughs, harrows, household utensils, tools of crafts, hunting, fishing, arable farming, livestock, viticulture and fruit growing, as well as school equipment and objects linked to customs. The former school building houses a kitchen with an open hearth, a farmhouse parlour, a room for domestic crafts and an archive room. The building is also the venue of the Stara Gora art colony.
