About the museum
Dr Anton Korošec was born on 12 May 1872 into a farming family in Biserjane, in the municipality of Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici. He earned a doctorate in theology, was a writer and editor of several newspapers, and from 1906 a member of the Austrian Reichsrat. In 1917 he read out the May Declaration on behalf of the South Slav deputies, and from the end of that year until his death in 1940 he led the Slovene People's Party.
The cultural association for the protection of natural and cultural heritage Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici, with the cooperation and support of the municipality, set up a permanent memorial exhibition on his life and work in his birthplace. A memorial plaque was unveiled on the house in 1989, and in May 2017, on the centenary of the May Declaration, a memorial room was opened there.
