About the museum
The Muzej slovenskih filmskih igralcev (Museum of Slovene Film Actors) is run by the Slovenska kinoteka (Slovene Cinematheque) and the Občina Divača (Municipality of Divača). It grew out of a permanent exhibition on Ita Rina, the actress who was born as Ida Kravanja on 7 July 1907 in Divača and became famous across Europe in the 1930s. In 1997 the municipality, together with the Zavod za spomeniško varstvo Nova Gorica (Nova Gorica Institute for the Protection of Monuments), restored the Škrateljnova hiša (Škrateljn House), and the Slovenska kinoteka set up an exhibition on her on the upper floor.
The idea of a museum of Slovene film actors arose from this display. The renovation of the whole Škrateljnova domačija began in 2002, when the architect Vojteh Ravnikar prepared a competition with students of the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture. The project was completed in July 2010 with funds from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, and the museum was officially opened on 8 July 2011.
The main permanent exhibition, using exhibition material, video and a multimedia interactive table, presents the process of creating a film role and important Slovene actors. In the summer months the museum stages open-air performances in the summer cinema, and all year round workshops, lectures and screenings take place in the multi-purpose hall.
