About the museum
The Galerija Miklova hiša has operated since 1988 on the ground floor of the Miklova hiša in Ribnica. In the 19th century the building was an inn and a bakery. In 1988 the exhibition programme moved almost entirely from the Petkova galerija in the Ribnica castle, which had been operating since 1972, into the hastily renovated premises of the Miklova hiša.
The gallery organises exhibitions of established and young Slovenian artists and looks after the artistic heritage of Ribnica. It is run by the Rokodelski center Ribnica.
The gallery holds an art collection of more than 700 works that grew over thirty years. Its foundation is works from the Ribnica art meetings and colonies; later it was supplemented with donations and purchases of works by contemporary Slovenian artists. Part of the collection is also a didactic collection of selected works for art-education purposes, completed in 1993. Alongside the exhibitions, the gallery offers guided tours, educational programmes and the art school LICE.
