About the museum
Trubar's farmstead in Rašica stands on the bank of the stream of the same name. The idea of renovation arose in 1981, on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Fran Levstik. In 1983 the Municipality of Ljubljana Vič-Rudnik, at the initiative of the local community of Velike Lašče, bought the mill and farm buildings from the last owner. The village of Rašica and Temk's mill were declared a cultural and historical monument in 1984, and the farmstead was renovated on 21 September 1986, on the 400th anniversary of Trubar's death.
The group of buildings consists of the memorial house with the mill, the Venetian sawmill, a farm building with a barn and a hayrack. All the buildings have kept their external appearance from the time of construction or from the renovation of the mill in the 19th century. The owner of the farmstead is the Municipality of Velike Lašče; it is managed by the public institute Trubarjevi kraji (Trubar Places).
In the memorial room on the upper floor of the house, Trubar's life and work are presented, with an emphasis on the first Slovene book, along with recordings of all his books since 1550. Temk's mill is the oldest building of the farmstead, and since 2004 the Venetian sawmill has housed a collection of sawing equipment. Under Trubar's motto Stati inu obstati (To Stand and to Endure), the farmstead uses educational programmes to strengthen knowledge of Trubar, the first Slovene book and the Reformation.
