About the museum

The Kolarjeva domačija (Kolar Farmstead) stands at Trebče by a pond right beside the Podsreda–Bistrica ob Sotli road and has been part of the Kozjansko Regional Park since its founding. It is linked with the life of Josip Broz Tito: his aunt Ana Kolar, née Javeršek, and his cousin Ana Kostanjšek lived here. He liked to visit them and also held meetings here during the Second World War.

In recent years the farmstead has gained a new significance. Next to it, in a former arm of the River Bistrica, a pond was created which today is the most important breeding site for many amphibians in the area. Within the LIFE Amphicon project, a fish-free zone was established in part of the pond, and since 2024 the Information Centre for Amphibians, known as Žabja domačija (Frog Farmstead), has been operating here with a learning trail.

In a wooden hut with a straw roof there is an interactive exhibition on amphibians. Along the learning trail around the Trebče pond, visitors can see and hear amphibians during the spring migration; along the road there are underpasses and permanent protective fences that allow amphibians to cross safely.
