About the museum
Maks Pleteršnik (1840–1923) was born and buried in Pišece. He wrote his name into Slovene history with the great Slovensko-nemški slovar (Slovene-German Dictionary), for which he collected and edited material for twenty years. On his farmstead in the 19th century he wrote the first scholarly Slovene-German dictionary, which was published in 1895.
A memorial collection has been arranged in his birthplace. In three rooms his furniture and personal objects are on display, and above all his books. The entrance hall itself is an exhibition space, and the dictionary is displayed in a glass case.
The farmstead is looked after by the Društvo Pleteršnikova domačija Pišece (Pleteršnik Farmstead Pišece Society), which also organises the Pleteršnik Days with a symposium. Visitors can also hear the Pleteršnik folk singers, who sing Slovene folk and semi-folk songs to the accordion.
