About the museum
The Avsenik Museum operates within the Avsenik inn in the centre of Begunje and presents the development and history of the folk-entertainment ensemble Ansambel bratov Avsenik (Avsenik Brothers Ensemble). Slavko Avsenik and his elder brother Vilko Ovsenik are regarded as the founders of a genre that many ensembles in Slovenia and around the world now imitate.
In their birthplace are displayed original musical instruments and the costume that Slavko Avsenik wore on concert stages and album covers. On display are numerous awards and honours that the ensemble received for its services to music and to the promotion of Slovenia, as well as gold, platinum and diamond records. The upper floor presents the Avsenik family story, with a flat and furnishings from the family farmstead.
The museum has interactive points with songs and video recordings from different periods of the ensemble, a shop with CDs and souvenirs, and a multi-purpose hall with 70 seats. A documentary film with archive recordings, in Slovenian, German, English and Italian, is also available for groups.
