About the museum
The Muzej pošte in telekomunikacij is a detached unit of the Tehniški muzej Slovenije (Technical Museum of Slovenia); its co-founders are Pošta Slovenije (Slovenian Post) and Telekom Slovenije. The Postal, Telegraph and Telephone Department was proposed to the TMS already in the mid-1950s, and the first collections were opened to the public in 1988 at the Starološki grad in Škofja Loka. As those premises proved unsuitable, the museum was moved to Polhov Gradec in 2008.
In Polhov Gradec Manor two collections are on display: The History of the Post and (Tele)communications Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, and the Živin kotiček (Živa's Corner) for the youngest. The collections are complemented by a short overview of the history of the castle and a presentation of Count Rihard Ursini Blagaj, who supported the development of agriculture, domestic crafts and the arts.
The renovated museum is the outcome of long-standing cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Pošta Slovenije, Telekom Slovenije and the Technical Museum of Slovenia. In 2015 they opened a museum trail for the blind and partially sighted, titled Dotakni se (Touch).
