About the museum
The Paviljon Expano is a wooden skeleton building in which Slovenia presented itself at the Expo Milano world exhibition in 2015. After the exhibition the pavilion was dismantled and re-erected by Lake Soboško in Murska Sobota. The Mestna občina Murska Sobota (City of Murska Sobota) took over its management, and the project Vrata v Pomurje – regijski promocijski center (Gateway to Pomurje – Regional Promotion Centre) gave it new content and revitalised the degraded area of a former gravel pit. The gates opened on 12 April 2019.
The pavilion consists of the exhibition (an interactive experience park), a tourist information centre, a catering section and a business centre. The exhibition is not guided; staff are permanently present nearby to help with the use of technologies. A visit lasts about one to one and a half hours.
Visitors travel through the space and time of Pomurje with a 3D projection, plan excursions with a gigaphotograph, test their concentration on an EEG device with the theme of Pomurje’s waters, meet holographic animals in the Čarobni gozd (Magic Forest), listen to Pomurje music in two “lonci” (pots) and view works by Pomurje artists, and fly over the landscape with virtual glasses, like the Belgian scientist Max Cosyns, who in 1934 landed with a stratospheric balloon in Ženavlje.

The admission ticket includes a visit to the exhibition in the interactive experience park; prices include VAT. Booking online is recommended, as it guarantees an entry time. The guide and driver of a group receive the service free of charge on presentation of the appropriate document; teachers and accompanying persons of school groups likewise.

Free car and coach parking by Lake Soboško; charging points for electric vehicles (one Tesla and two universal) and two charging places for Avant2go.
The pavilion stands at the exit from motorway A5, beside Lake Soboško; footpaths and cycle paths also lead to it. At the edge of the car park you can borrow the city bicycle Soboški biciklin.
