About the museum
The country manor in the Žabji kraj district of Solkan is thought to have been built in the second half of the 18th century. In 1798 it was bought from the Werdenberg state fund by Friderik pl. Bartolomei, who had moved from Pergine near Trento; it remained in the hands of his descendants until the mid-20th century.
In 1980 the Goriški muzej acquired the building, which had been damaged in the 1977 earthquake, in order to set up a museum collection of recent history there. The following year, to designs by Bogdan Mikuž, the interior was converted into exhibition rooms. The villa is a two-storey building with a preserved late-Baroque layout; behind it is a small park with a round stone fountain basin.
The building houses the permanent exhibition Ohraniti preteklost, ustaviti čas za danes in jutri (Preserving the Past, Stopping Time for Today and Tomorrow), and temporary exhibitions alongside it. Since 2012 the administration of the Goriški muzej, with its library, has also been located next to the villa.
