About the museum
The Zasavski muzej Trbovlje has operated as an inter-municipal museum of recent history only since 1990. From 1951 it operated as a museum of the National Liberation Struggle and People's Revolution, called the Revirski muzej ljudske revolucije (Mining District Museum of the People's Revolution). Today it covers the municipalities of Trbovlje, Hrastnik and Zagorje ob Savi, which are linked by a shared mining background.
The basis of the exhibitions is the permanent exhibition Srečno… črne doline in the museum building in Trbovlje. Combining classical and ambient display, it covers ten main themes that run through the development of the three Zasavje towns over the last two hundred years: settlement and geological structure, mining, transport, leisure and societies, the social situation of workers, industry, and both world wars. From time to time the permanent art collections of the sculptor Stojan Batič and the painter Leopold Hočevar are also on display; they created extensive work on the theme of mining and the industrial landscape.
Not far from the museum, in the mining colony of Njiva, a miner's flat has been set up with two displays: a flat from the 1920s (opened 1984) and a flat from the 1960s (opened 2003). The museum also manages collections in Hrastnik and the Spominska hiša Ustanovnega kongresa KPS (memorial house of the founding congress of the Communist Party of Slovenia) at Čebine.
