About the museum
The Museo Municipal de Ronda opened in 1991 in the Palacio de Mondragón, in the historic centre of the city. Since then it has welcomed more than two million visitors and has become the main reference for learning about the past of Ronda and the Serranía.
In May 2025 its complete refurbishment was inaugurated, financed with €150,000 from European funds and €40,000 contributed by Turismo de Ronda. The reform improved the condition of the facilities, gave the content a unified treatment and almost quadrupled the exhibition material, with new panels, display cases, audiovisuals and virtual reality glasses.
The route begins in a reception area and follows a chronological order: geology, ancient and recent prehistory, Antiquity, the Roman period, Late Antiquity, and the Middle Ages and the early modern period. The two most recent areas, devoted to the geology of the Serranía and to the Islamic conquest, Al-Andalus and the funerary world, are on the upper floor, above the Patio Mudéjar.
