About the museum
The Museo de Artesanía Textil de Grazalema belongs to the company Artesanía Textil de Grazalema, S.A., one of the oldest craft textile factories in Spain and the only one still active in the district. Wool blanket making in Grazalema is documented from the 17th century, and the town already appears in the Catastro de Ensenada.
The museum occupies a 19th-century building and houses the old machinery, now out of use, that was used to make the blankets: the complete carding train, spinning equipment, fulling mills (batanes), wooden looms and the natural teasels used to raise the nap of the cloth. The factory, which is still in operation, has a shop where its products are sold.
