About the museum
The Casa del Cine occupies the Cortijo Romero, also known as the Casa de Santa Isabel, a house in the Villablanca district that originally belonged to the Balmes family. Almería City Council bought it to turn it into a museum, since in the 1960s and 1970s the province had a close relationship with the cinema.
The house gave shelter to actors and actresses during shoots in places such as the Desierto de Tabernas or the Cabo de Gata, among them Clint Eastwood and Brigitte Bardot. Its greatest fame is due to John Lennon, who stayed here in 1966 during the filming of “How I Won the War”; his stay inspired the song “Strawberry Fields Forever”.
After its recent renovation, the house was opened to the public to make known Almería’s film heritage and the importance it had for that industry.
