About the museum

The Ecomuseo de la Vega de Almería opened in October 2024 as a space devoted to the agricultural memory of the Vega de Almería and the Lower Andarax. The building, of more than 420 square metres, was built by the Diputación de Almería, which handed it over to the Ayuntamiento de Almería in November 2023, and was partly financed with European funds. The project fulfils a long-standing aspiration of the Asociación Cultural de la Vega, which had dreamed of it since 2006.

The museum has three main rooms: “El Cortijo, una forma de vida” (The Farmhouse, a Way of Life), “La Vega, una forma de trabajar” (The Vega, a Way of Working) and “El territorio del Bajo Andarax” (The Lower Andarax Territory). It brings together household items, utensils, carts, photographs and even clothing of the period, in many cases from families who devoted their lives to the Almería countryside.

The route, designed for all audiences, takes visitors into the way of life in the Almería countryside at the beginning of the 20th century through re-creations of rooms and models of traditional buildings. The centre also has multipurpose rooms and exhibition spaces.
