About the museum

The Casa Grande de Cimadevila, in the parish of Trasalba (Amoeiro, province of Ourense), was the usual residence of the writer Ramón Otero Pedrayo (Orense, 1888–1976), a central figure of Galician culture in the 20th century. During his life many friends and fellow members of the Galleguista movement visited him, and the house was a place of debate and shared projects. Today it is considered one of the great symbolic spaces of contemporary Galician culture.

The pazo (manor house) has been preserved as closely as possible to its original state, with its interior rooms, a romantic garden and the adjoining properties. Over time, reforms were made to receive visitors: an auditorium, exhibition rooms, a reception area, a library and a bookshop. The assembly hall was built in 1993–1994 in the former wine cellars.

The visit allows you to see Otero Pedrayo's personal library, expanded with later donations, as well as furniture, photographs and paintings that accompanied him in life. A map of Galicia by Domingo Fontán stands out, to which the writer gave special importance. The foundation's holdings come from the donation Otero Pedrayo made during his lifetime of his properties in Trasalba, among them the pazo, to the publishing house Galaxia.
