About the museum
The museum pays tribute to Estanislao Reverter Sequeiros, “Lalao” (Ourense, 1929–1991), one of the great figures of 20th-century Galician sport and regarded as the father of motor racing in Galicia. It opened on 11 June 2014 in the former railway station of Santa Cruz de Arrabaldo, as part of the “Estaciones Vivas” project of INORDE, the body of the Diputación de Ourense that brings disused Renfe stations back into use as exhibition spaces.
The building, which it shares with the Museo do Traxe Tradicional Galego and the Centro de Interpretación del Lino, has two floors. The upper floor covers Reverter's racing career between 1955 and 1975, with photographs, trophies, plaques, regulations, wheels from his cars and a model of the Circuito del Noroeste. His record includes 54 outright victories, twelve appearances at the Monte Carlo Rally and two wins at the Rally de España.
The ground floor is devoted to his other activities: creator of the Rallye de Ourense, founder of the Escudería Ourense, promoter of drivers through his Reverter Competición team, and builder of the Alpinche. It displays a Goggomobil, miniature cars, helmets, magazines, books, racing suits and official awards. A space is reserved for the Alpinche for when it is restored.
