About the museum
The Parque Arqueolóxico da Cultura Castrexa, also called Lansbrica, is built around the San Cibrao de Las archaeological site, known as “A Cidade”, in the municipalities of San Amaro and Punxín, about 20 kilometres from the city of Ourense. It is one of the largest and best-preserved hillforts in Galicia and one of the most visited archaeological sites in the region. In November 2025 the Xunta de Galicia declared it a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest).
The settlement occupies a raised site with two concentric oval enclosures. The most recent research dates its occupation as a hillfort to between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD, with traces of further phases until the collapse of the rampart and final abandonment, already in the 11th century. Excavations have revealed paved streets, water channel systems, ramparts, monumental gates, cisterns and complex houses arranged around a central courtyard and grouped into neighbourhoods. So far around 15% of the settlement has been excavated and opened to visitors.
The park, opened in 2014, presents the site and secures the excavated remains. It includes an interpretation centre with a permanent exhibition on life in the Iron Age and a route through the hillfort itself.
