About the museum

The Casa-Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares is in Castil de Campos, an autonomous local entity (entidad local autónoma) of the municipality of Priego de Córdoba. It recreates a traditional farmhouse from between the 19th century and the mid-20th century and brings together everyday tools from the comarca. It was installed in a small but representative building, which was consolidated and restored for this purpose, respecting the original structure as far as possible.

It is a private initiative of the village’s residents, who bought the property, had it restored and gathered the objects for the ethnographic display. The route through its rooms recalls tools and traditional practices that have almost disappeared.

The ground floor has a small kitchen with a chimney and pantry, a living room with jug shelves (cantareras) and a hooded chimney, a bedroom, a stable with mangers, and a courtyard with a pigsty (zahúrda) and troughs for poultry. The upper floor has the hayloft, three storerooms and a salting room for meat from the pig slaughter, as well as the grain stores (trojes).
