About the museum
The Museo Histórico-Arqueológico de Almedinilla is located in the Fuente Ribera area, at the foot of the Albayate sierra and next to the Caicena river. It opened in 1999 and occupies a group of buildings that were once a flour mill, a textile factory and an olive press, with an area of about 1,200 m².
Its collections come mainly from the two archaeological sites in the municipality: the Iberian settlement of Cerro de la Cruz and the Roman villa of El Ruedo. The exhibits include Iberian pottery and weapons, Roman sculptures, grave goods from the Roman necropolis, and amphorae that once held the oil, wine and grain of Baetica.
The route is divided into five rooms: Molinos y Cereal (Mills and Cereal), Aula del Caicena, Aceite y Olivo (Oil and Olive), Cultura Ibérica and Cultura Romana. The original machinery of the old mill, with its turbine and electricity generator from the early 20th century, and that of the olive press are preserved. Among the sculptures, the figure of the Greco-Roman god of sleep, Hypnos or Somnus, stands out.
