About the museum
The Casa Museo del Vino de Las Manchas occupies the site of a former rural schoolteacher's house, in the area of Las Manchas de Abajo, in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane. The space is dedicated to the wine heritage of La Palma and traces about five centuries of the island's wine history, from the 16th century to the present day.
The interpretation rooms explain, through panels, the island's climate, the history of its wines, the annual cycle of work in the vineyard and the grape varieties. An exhibition of farm implements and tools, among them a lagar de tea and the traditional wooden press, shows how wine was made before mechanisation.
The visit can be completed with a tasting of wines from the Denominación de Origen La Palma in a small bar and with the purchase of wine and the island's artisan products. The site also includes a small estate with an old cellar and a cistern that once supplied the house with water.
