About the museum

The Casa Museu Joan Abelló, known as the Casa del Pintor (Painter's House), is the family home where the painter Joan Abelló was born, on Carrer de Lluís Duran in Mollet del Vallès. Over his lifetime the artist gathered thousands of objects and extended the house by buying the neighbouring houses, until it became a workspace and collection. Its entrance doorway comes from the former convent dels Àngels de Barcelona.

Walls and ceilings are covered with works of art, and the display cases hold miniatures, porcelain, stained glass and costumes, as well as Asian and African art and paintings and sculptures by artists such as Joaquim Mir, Sorolla, Picasso, Brossa and Dalí. The house itself is considered a work of art.

The Casa del Pintor is part of the offer of the Museu Abelló, the municipal art museum of Mollet. It is visited only on guided tours for groups of one to twenty people, which leave from the reception of the museum.
