About the museum
The Centre d’Interpretació Les Veus del Front is part of the network of Battle of the Ebro sites managed by the Consorcio Memorial de los Espacios de la Batalla del Ebro (COMEBE). It is located in El Pinell de Brai, on the first floor of a building on calle Major, and is dedicated to how words, images and the media were used during the battle of 1938.
The exhibition starts from the idea that the Civil War was the first great modern war, in which propaganda, radio and sound film became weapons for both sides. The messages were summed up in two basic slogans, one Republican and one Francoist, and were aimed at all sectors of a society at war.
The route is organised around several themes: propaganda within each army, with political commissars, military chaplains and songs; the use of loudspeakers, leaflets and exchanges of tobacco between enemy lines to undermine the enemy’s morale; the letters, photographs and small keepsakes that connected soldiers with their families; the press, radio and newsreels in the rear areas; and the role of war correspondents and foreign writers, since the Ebro was the last theatre of war for the International Brigades.
