About the museum
The visit to the Valle Salado de Añana begins at this visitor and interpretation centre, housed in one of the former public salt warehouses. The building is shaped like an upturned boat and is known as “El Torco”.
Here guided tours are booked, audiovisual panels about the Valle Salado are shown, salts from around the world can be seen, related products are sold, and visitors learn what the work of the salt workers involves.
The Valle Salado is a complex of thousands of evaporation pans built by hand from stone, wood and clay, where salty spring water is distributed by gravity and salt is obtained by solar evaporation. Salt production has continued for more than 7,000 years, and in 2009 the Fundación Valle Salado was created to recover the complex.
