About the museum

The centre is inside the restored Arab Alcazaba of Ferreira and occupies several rooms of the Casa Grande, a Morisco-style mansion that has also been remodelled. The Casa Grande was built in the first half of the 16th century, was fully restored between 2004 and 2005 and now houses the town hall and other municipal services. The interpretation centre was installed in 2007.

With a fresh and educational approach, the exhibition brings the Arab legacy of the Marquesado del Zenete to life: baths, castles, watchtowers and cisterns. It uses a wide range of technologies, from traditional audiovisuals to virtual reconstructions, stage sets, holograms and life-size figures.

The visit includes stories passed on from grandparents to children, explanations of the tools that residents used in earlier times, and details about arabesque designs.

The centre is on Calle Alcazaba, within the Alcazaba enclosure, where the town hall is also located. Ferreira is in the Guadix comarca.
