About the museum
Fiñana town council opened the centre in February 2023, a few metres from exit 333 of the A-92 motorway, on the road towards the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. It occupies a rustic-looking building with shaded areas, a car park and a rest area, next to the Junta de Andalucía’s road conservation centre.
It is run under a concession and is staffed by a team of geologists and biologists. The exhibition presents the geological and biological features of the Sierra Nevada area on the Almería side and is designed for all audiences.
As well as the exhibition, the centre acts as an information and booking point for rural and high-mountain accommodation, bicycle hire, horse rides and guided routes, and it has an eco-shop. It organises interpreted nature routes by bicycle, children’s workshops on fossils and on the colours of prehistory, and guided visits to the monuments of Fiñana.
