About the museum
The Cueva Museo de Alfarería La Alcazaba occupies a cave at the foot of the Alcazaba of Guadix, whose origin dates back to around the mid-15th century. According to tradition, it formed part of the fortress's old stables, and inside it there is a well from the same period that supplied the Alcazaba with water.
The cave functions as both a museum and the pottery workshop of the Gabarrón family. It houses a collection of ceramics from the Guadix region, with old pieces and works by the potter himself, including large storage vessels such as tinajas and orzas (large earthenware jars).
The route passes through the kitchen, the cellar and the larder, a room furnished to evoke the 1950s, and rooms devoted to Granada ceramics. The visit ends with a demonstration on a foot-powered potter's wheel of Arab tradition. Next to the museum, the workshop has a shop that can also be visited.
