About the museum
The interpretation centre is in San Román, in the Palacio Valdés-Bazán, a manor house built at the beginning of the 17th century. The building also houses a public library, a lecture hall, IT classrooms and multipurpose rooms for activities such as craft workshops.
The centre displays scale volumetric models of the main paintings and engravings of the Cueva de la Peña, also located in San Román and containing Solutrean and Magdalenian art. As the cave is open to the public for only a few days a year, the centre allows those who do not manage to get a place to learn about its art. It has a temporary exhibition room and two classrooms devoted to the cave, and it is the starting point for guided tours.
Access to the cave is limited to 25 people a day in July, August and the first half of September, and requires advance booking with Candamo Town Council.
