About the museum
The Centro de Folklore in Cieza opened in October 2014 in a newly built four-storey building on Calle Empedrá, with nearly 1,000 square metres of space. It houses the Centro de Interpretación del Folklore, the Escuela Municipal de Folklore (municipal folklore school), a documentation centre linked to the Federación de Asociaciones de Coros y Danzas de España, and rooms for exhibitions and rehearsals. It is run by the Grupo de Coros y Danzas “Francisco Salzillo” de Cieza.
The Centro de Interpretación occupies two rooms on the ground floor. The first presents the traditional folklore of the Region of Murcia: music, singing, dance and costume. The second, larger room recreates the rural customs and vanished trades of the huerta in the 18th and 19th centuries, with a traditional house furnished with original household items.
In February 2025, a permanent exhibition of 260 musical instruments from around the world was opened in the María Gómez room, complementing the visit to the Centro de Interpretación.
