About the museum
The Museo de Siyasa opened its doors in May 1999 in a Modernista building in Cieza that was formerly a casino. It succeeds the former San Bartolomé and Municipal Archaeology museums and holds archaeological objects and remains from the Palaeolithic up to recent times, as well as evidence of the rock art of the area.
Its most notable piece is the full-size reproduction of houses 6 and 10 of the Andalusian medina of Siyâsa, with arches and porticoes from the Almohad period, stucco work (yeserías) and a central courtyard. The exhibition occupies four levels: level 0 houses the machinery of the former Mateos olive mill, 18th-century coats of arms and ethnographic objects from the last three hundred years; level 1 contains the Andalusian houses; level 2 displays material from palaeontology, prehistory, Iberian culture, Romanisation and the early medieval period; and level 3 holds remains and a model of Medina Siyasa.
The holdings exceed 90,000 objects relating to archaeology, art, science and ethnography.
