About the museum
The Brotherhood of the Prayer in the Garden and the Holy Sepulchre, known in Cieza as “los Dormis”, was founded in 1943, although its origins go back to the 17th century. Its popular name comes from “los Dormijosos” (the sleepers), the name once given to the float of the Prayer in the Garden.
The brotherhood processes with several floats: the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the Prayer in the Garden on Holy Tuesday, the Anointing of Jesus at Bethany on Holy Wednesday, and the Fall and the Holy Sepulchre on Good Friday. The Holy Sepulchre group is the work of the Cieza sculptor Manuel Juan Carrillo Marco, made between 1951 and 1963.
The brotherhood’s house museum, on Calle Cartas, is its headquarters and the starting and finishing point of processions such as the Palma procession. No published visiting hours or detailed description of its exhibition have been found.
