About the museum

The workshop house of Antonio de Torres, on Calle Real in La Cañada, is where the master guitar maker lived and built his most important guitars during the last years of his life, until his death in 1892. It is therefore one of the most emblematic places in the history of the guitar.

No moulds, templates or tools of Torres survive from the original workshop, except three pieces that are displayed in the Museo de la Guitarra de Almería. That gap has been filled by the donation of all the elements of the workshop of Juan Francisco Salvador Giménez (1946-2010), Torres’s great-grandson, whose guitars achieved great prestige in Japan.

The space, dedicated to guitar making in Almería, shows a carpenter’s bench, moulds, plans, templates, tools, woods and other items used to build guitars. A display case made by the great-grandson himself also shows some guitars that the family has kept. It is part of the Red Municipal de Museos de Almería.
