About the museum
The Fundación Pedro Cano was established in December 2008 on the initiative of the painter's family, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and Blanca town council. It was founded with the aim of being a place of beauty, peace and coexistence in the Ricote Valley.
The museum is part of a building known as MUCAB, designed by the architect Martín Lejarraga, on the banks of the Segura river. Its collection exceeds a thousand works (oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and travel sketchbooks) donated by Pedro Cano and his brothers Pepe and Jesús; some of them are kept in store so that they can be shown on a rotating basis.
The ground floor houses the series “Clausuras”, the reception and a shop; the first floor, “Vivir pintando”, traces his career chronologically from his first oil painting, made at the age of eleven; the second floor, “Obra en papel”, brings together travel sketchbooks and watercolours for Italo Calvino's “Las ciudades invisibles”; and the third floor is devoted to temporary exhibitions.
