About the museum

The Alfar-Museo de Jiménez de Jamuz is a living museum, open to the public since 1994, which keeps alive the pottery tradition of a village that once had 106 kilns. The craft is practised here in the traditional way: clay is extracted from the clay pits (barreros), dried, kneaded and shaped on the potter's wheel, reproducing the earthenware that made the village's potters famous. It preserves the only Arab kiln surviving from those once found in the municipality.

The museum was closed from June 2023 and reopened to the public on 3 July 2025 with an apprentice potter hired by the town council. In 2026 the season began on 1 May and runs until the end of September, with guided visits and introductory clay workshops.
