About the museum
The Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Porcuna was installed in the Torre de Boabdil, a 15th-century tower that forms part of the town’s walls and where, according to tradition, Boabdil was held prisoner around 1488. It opened on 27 December 1980. Rooms 1 and 2 are in the tower, and the rest of the display is spread across town council premises.
The museum traces prehistory and the Iberian and Roman culture of the ancient city of Obulco, with a notable collection of Iberian-Roman sculpture. It displays Palaeolithic and Neolithic stone tools, Iberian pottery and sculptures, Roman inscriptions and coins, and Corinthian capitals from Obulco. The tower has a terrace with views over the countryside of Jaén and Córdoba.
