About the museum
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Mayte Spínola opened in 2004 in Marmolejo (Jaén) thanks to a donation of works by the artists of the group “ProArte y Cultura”, which Mayte Spínola founded and directs. Its board of trustees is chaired by the town’s mayor.
The current building, completed in 2010, stands in the courtyard of an early 20th-century olive mill. The collection is eclectic and covers the main art movements from the late 20th century to the early 21st, with more than 250 works by Spanish and international artists. In 2016 a donation of sculptures by emerging artists from Professor Miguel Fuentes del Olmo, emeritus professor at the University of Seville, was added.
