About the museum
The Museo Provincial del Vino is located in the castle of Peñafiel, a National Historic Monument since 1917. The Diputación de Valladolid promoted it in 1999 to showcase the oenological wealth of the province.
The route follows the vine and the wine from the grape, the soil and the climate to pruning, grafting, pressing, bottling and labelling. Nine sections show the history of wine, the different types of presses and tools, bottles and tasting, and one is devoted to the festivals, costumes and customs linked to wine. Traditional trades such as cooper, basket maker, glassmaker and cork maker are also presented, along with how wine was made and drunk in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the early modern period.
The ticket combines the museum, which can be visited freely, with a guided tour of the castle; commented tastings can also be booked.
