Centro Temático del Palomar

About the museum

The Centro Temático del Palomar occupies a restored former farmhouse on Calle Mayor in Santoyo, in the Palencian Tierra de Campos. It was inaugurated on 30 August 2007 and opened to the public the following day. It is run by the town council and is devoted to making known the tradition of the dovecotes in this comarca.

The thematic route uses innovative display systems to explain how doves are raised and why dovecotes are a good example of vernacular architecture. Many of them were built with rammed earth (tapial) and adobe, materials characteristic of the flat lands of Castile.

The centre has a lift, offers guided visits and has an educational department.
