About the museum
The monastery of Sancti Spiritus “el Real” in Toro was founded in 1316 by Doña Teresa Gil and remains a convent of Dominican nuns. It can only be visited on a guided tour.
Among its treasures is the tomb of Doña Beatriz de Portugal, carved in alabaster and supported by ten lion heads. The monastery also preserves Moorish armour, fine coffered ceilings (artesonados), the cloister and an important collection of 16th-century sargas, which are paintings on cloth, as well as a sacred art museum.
Public access is organised under an agreement between the Diputación de Zamora and the congregation of Dominican sisters of Toro. It can be combined with the churches of the town through a joint pass.
